My nieces birthday is coming up and  I was looking for a gift to send and wanted something out of the ordinary and something made in Ireland.  I checked out the Irish Craft Council website where I came across Red Rufus sock dogs. They have an adorable website http://www.redrufus.ie/ and I picked out my favourite before ordering.  It was all extremely easy.  I had it sent to my home (since I always want to see what I order before giving it as a gift) and I must say I was very pleased with it.

The dog itself is nicely stitched.  It doesn’t have the exactness of a machine made toy, but that just adds to the charm.  I love the little eyes and the stuffing has a nice feel to it. The ribbon collar has a lovely flower stitch

pattern. The dog felt sturdy and well made and as though it would hold up through hours of play.

It reminds me of a handmade sock monkey I had when I was a child, it was my favourite toy for years and years, and one of the only ones I still have.  I just hope my niece loves this one as much as I did mine years ago.

The order came within days of the order placement, even though I also asked for  customisation – my niece’s name to be stitched on the back. The stitching was adorable, and I am sure she is going to love it!
